Apartment/Condo Unit Compost Services
Everyone deserves the opportunity to divert food scraps, that’s why we are rolling out our composting collection program to apartment/condo/multi-unit buildings!
By participating in a composting service you will be diverting organic waste resources from landfills, promoting sustainable habits in your community, and creating nutrient-rich soil to heal our earth.
Already have a bin in your building?
If you were given a flyer by property management or see a Compost Crusader bin in your disposal area then your building is already composting. Hooray!

How the Program Works
Get Your Building Registered and Residents Signed Up
Once your building is registered we'll complete a preliminary assessment so we can put a plan in place for your property, and determine the bin location. Typically, near other waste disposal bins. Management begins promoting the program to building residents. Residents will set up an account with Compost Crusader for individual direct billing and educational materials distribution. We will deliver keys to the bin and optional starter kits (see info below).
Start Collecting Your Organic Materials
A locked, wheeled bin will be delivered to your building and be placed in a pre-determined location where residents that have signed up for the program will have access to it with a key. We provide weekly pick-up service in the warmer months (April-November) and bi-weekly service in the colder months (December-March). Collect your food scraps in your kitchen pail, lined with a paper bag or newspaper. When full, take to the buildings locked Compost Crusader disposal bin and empty (paper and all). Be mindful that you are only placing organic/compostable materials into the bins.
Put Your Compost in the Compost Crusader Bins
Once you start composting, talk with your neighbors and share the opportunity with them. Everyone in the building working together to reduce food scraps going to the landfill will make a huge impact!
Food Scraps from Kitchen to Compost
Collecting your household food scraps is as easy as one, two, three!
The Caddy
Select a kitchen caddy - this can be anything from an ice cream pail, a stainless steel bucket, to a ceramic compost pot. Something that fits on your counter top or under your sink or in a cabinet and has a secure lid.
The Bags
Line your kitchen caddy for easy transfer to the larger compost collection bin. Some liner options are: Brown Paper Bags - use small paper bags for countertop caddy or paper grocery bags in a 5-gallon bucket. Non glossy newspaper - line your caddy with newspaper and then wrap scraps in more newspaper before adding to collection bin;
The Bins
When your caddy is full take it to the collection bin in your buildings disposal area. Don't forget your key!! Empty paper wrapped food scraps into collection bin and lock the bin again. Back in your kitchen, give your empty caddy a rinse before you add more paper to minimize odors.

Compost Crusader has signage made from pictures to be placed with your waste station to help with proper source separation. This will help to expedite the implementation process while also reducing chances of contamination.
